These three route types are not simply better or worse tiers. They use different access paths, resource models and cost structures, and each suits different network conditions. Understanding the differences before choosing is usually more effective than judging by region alone.

IEPL Dedicated Line

An IEPL dedicated line uses a relatively fixed cross-border path to connect local access with an exit in the target region. Its route planning is more defined and less exposed to random public-network changes, making it suitable for work that depends on a continuous connection.

For remote meetings, cloud development, continuous document sync, project uploads and extended AI tool sessions, interruptions often hurt productivity more than a single slow page load. Test an IEPL dedicated line first for these tasks.

Dedicated-line resources usually cost more to organize and maintain than standard paths. Choose them for the tasks that need them rather than using them for everything. If everyday light browsing is already stable on a relay route, frequent switching is unnecessary.

Relay Route

A relay route first connects to a selected access point, then sends traffic through a relay node to the target region. The extra routing layer can avoid some unsuitable public-network segments and makes it easier to configure different exits by region and purpose.

It offers a balanced combination of coverage, cost and connection performance, making it suitable for web browsing, video playback, research and general work. When the target service has no fixed regional requirement, start by testing a relay route in a nearby region.

Relay performance depends on the local carrier network and the current exit path. Routes in the same city can perform differently, so when loading stalls, first try another route type in the same region before moving to a more distant region.

Direct Route

A direct route connects to a server in the target region through the public network, with fewer routing layers and room to expand city coverage. It adds more regional exits and is useful for content and services with clear location requirements.

Direct routes depend more on the public links between the local network and the target region. Test direct access first for lightweight pages, regional checks or occasional use; if the connection fluctuates, switch to a relay in the same region or an IEPL dedicated line in a nearby region.

Direct routes are generally easier to control in terms of resource cost, but that does not mean they are faster for every use case. Distance, carrier networks and the target service’s access location all affect results. Choose based on actual connectivity for the current task.

Start with a relay route in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong or another nearby region. Everyday browsing usually benefits more from continuous page loading and stable site switching than from a distant exit. If the target site requires a specific region, switch to the corresponding country or region.

Streaming and Regional Content

Choose an exit based on the content’s region rather than simply the nearest physical route. Before playback, check whether the account region, content page and exit region match. If content is unavailable, try another route in the same region first; if playback keeps stalling, compare the IEPL dedicated line and relay route for that region.

AI Tools and Developer Platforms

AI chats, streaming output, code completion and command-line tasks depend on a continuous connection. Prioritize an IEPL dedicated line in a region commonly used by the target service and keep the same exit region during work. Frequent region changes can affect login sessions and regional detection, while a consistent route makes troubleshooting easier.

Troubleshooting Path

How to Decide When to Switch Routes

When a connection fails, switching randomly makes the cause harder to identify. Check the region, route type and device settings in a fixed order to isolate the affected part of the path.

  1. Confirm the Target Region First

    Check which region hosts the target website, streaming content, game zone or work system. When the region is clear, choose the corresponding exit; when it is not, start with a nearby Asia-Pacific route. Change only the region at this stage, not the client mode or other settings.

  2. Then Compare Route Types in the Same Region

    Within one region, compare an IEPL dedicated line, relay and direct route in sequence. This separates regional differences from path differences. If a relay in the same region works while direct access is unstable, there is no need to keep trying distant direct routes.

  3. Keep the Exit and Recheck the App

    After choosing a route, reopen the target app or page so the old connection fully ends. AI tools, meeting software and streaming platforms may retain the previous network session. Switching routes without reopening the app does not guarantee that the result came from the new exit.

  4. Choose Rule Mode by App

    If only some apps need international routes, rule mode can reduce unrelated traffic through the subscription route. When you need to confirm the complete exit, adjust the mode according to the client’s instructions. After changing modes, recheck the target app instead of relying only on the client’s connection status.

  5. Record Working Combinations

    Keep a stable region and route-type combination for common tasks, such as a fixed exit for work and a content-region-based choice for streaming. Avoiding unnecessary switching helps keep account-region detection consistent and makes later troubleshooting more direct.
